Bread Tags: Where Environmental Sustainability Meets Social Impact
Our chapter of CUGB has partnered with Danielle Cares for Chairs to divert bread tags from landfills, ensure they have a second life in the manufacturing process, and use the proceeds from industry to purchase wheelchairs or prosthetics for children in need. CUGB (OPRF Chapter) wants to help Danielle provide another device or chair for a child in need!
Why are bread tags used to raise funds for Danielle Cares for Chairs?
Bread tags are a very clean, #6 polystyrene which are melted and upcycled into various products used in everyday life... egg cartons, drinking cups, etc. As long as these products are being made, we want to help maximize the amount of upcycled plastic in the manufacturing process. Diverting bread tags from landfills reduces methane emissions and give the plastic a second life.
Danielle Cares for Chairs, a non-profit in Indiana, sells the tags to manufacturers and uses the proceeds to medical devices and wheelchairs for children. So far, Danielle has converted over 7 million bread tags to 13 mobility products.

FUN FACT: depending on which device is being purchased, it requires 260,000 to 600,000 bread tags!

Danielle has converted roughly 7 million bread tags to 13 wheelchairs and devices, so far!
