A Spooky Clean Up: Part Two

Our second annual Halloween cleanup was a total blast for our board. Similar to last year, we showed our fall spirit by dressing up in scary black and orange clothes. Our 5 board members were joined by 9 wonderful volunteers, totaling to 14 people cleaning up. Family, friends, and those looking to just make the world a better place joined us.

After our 90 minutes of cleanup, we all gathered to weigh the total of trash and recycling. Each of us made guesses as to how much all of the bags weighed.

Everything came out to a whopping 128.5 pounds. Congratulations to me for being 0.5 pounds away from the total (using my extensive knowledge of guessing from past cleanups).

Along with the bags of trash, we were able to separate the recyclable items. The Forest Preserve implemented a way for us to put fewer soda cans and plastic bottles into landfills. We were able to find 25 pounds of recyclables. Though we were only able to recycle a small portion of our findings, it is amazing we are taking further steps into this new realm of recycling.

Our group has expanded and gained so many new opportunities since the beginning of our career. It is amazing to see how we have changed, and I can’t wait to see how our next clean up goes. Happy Halloween everyone! ~Gia B.
